after a longer look at the book, John M. Hoberman's Sport and Political Ideology has turned out definitely not to be dynamite. i struggled mightily (and vainly) with it last night in an attempt to make some appreciable headway. i was hoping to perhaps have some interesting things to say about the book by this point but despite a couple of hours of reading my interest is still primarily in the cover art.
