the ins and outs of the case are many, but the bottom line remains: my certitude about where i would end up at graduate school is gone. in the end, i suppose it is worth noting that if it looks too good to be true, blah blah platitude platitude. now a choice that seemed to be as easy as "Would you rather win $10 or win $8?" has turned into something significantly more difficult. i shouldn't complain. i still have two good options. it's just going to be a lot harder to sort them out. further bulletins as events warrant.
