It's a bit obvious.

this is the first, and perhaps the last (not likely) anecdote about my vacation to appear here that does not involve a faux-steamboat on the Thames:

on Saturday night we went looking for some entertainment of the pub-themed variety. what we found was a bar that has Redneck Night once a week, showcasing the talents of Joe-Tex Hagan, DJ. Joe-Tex, as it turns out, has a somewhat incongrous name for a 35 year old Ghanan although in retrospect, I suppose, Joe-Tex isn't a half bad name for a guy with a passion for old school country (if such a thing can be said to exist). his taste in music ran strongly in the Johnny Cash - Patsy Cline direction with a sprinkling of String Cheese Incident on top.

but make no mistake about it, J-T had a very particular sense for what he should and should not play for Redneck night. the week before, one of our party had approached him and requested A Boy Named Sue, a song that seemed to be in keeping with the peculiar tastes of the DJ. but instead of approval, his request was met with a mildly shocked look of rejection and the response (delivered in inimitable British English), "It's a bit obvious" in a tone which made it clear that (1) the song was more than a little bit obvious and (2) he, Joe-Tex Hagan would rather be caught dead than making playing such an obvious song.

aside from the fact that it was completely nonsensical, his response was utterly brilliant. so in homage, the next time my boss lays a stack of work on my desk, I'll look her straight in the eye and I'll say in the straightest tone I can muster, "Data entry? It's a bit obvious."
